The KORD

Well, after a long time away, the KORD has returned. It is the Anti-Waffles except that would mean that waffles is a stud but we know that he isn’t. He just plays a lot of stud. Anyway, it will be June 6th at 9:15 central time. It is an $8 buy-in and will have a 50/50 bounty. It should be a lot of fun. The password is pokere.

Playing The KORD and The Return of Focus

I almost forgot to get the KORD started for this month. It is the same structure as normal with a $7 + .70 buy-in and will continue to have the $2 bounty. I’ve added a little something to the prize pool because I can. I won a last short bet the other night for $25 and thought it would be nice to give this free money away. For a little added fun, Instant Tragedy will be broadcasting the event on IT Radio brought to you by BDR. I will be on live with him giving the play by play. The tourney is on Thursday the 21st and takes off at 21:30. The password is “pokere” as always. Tell all your friends and come out to play this fun event.

*************************

After playing a big buy-in like the FTPS Razz, I find that I have a little issue with staying focused for the next few days after words. This isn’t good for the bankroll but I think I need to play and work through these issues. I think it has something to do with the large percentage of my bankroll I just burnt through and thus the hangover has to work its way out. Eventually I think I’ll be able to leave this feeling of remorse or ineptitude fall of my shoulders like the rain. I think it fits into the same class as getting use to higher buy-ins for cash games. I have not gotten use to losing such a big chunk of cash even though I technically bought in for much less then the $322 buy-in.

Saturday night I was sitting around watching a movie when I got an IM from Kat. Kat wanted to play a SNG so I jumped on and also signed up for the PLO deep stack that takes off at some point every night. My hangover seemed to be in place as I slowly lost half of my chips in each tourney. I felt uninterested and scattered as I bled chips all over the table. My frustration came to a head as the big stack raised my blind yet again. But this time I had TT and came over the top for my tourney life. His AJ didn’t catch up and I now had a little over starting stack. I started to feel good again and started to make some bets. I eventually caught another pocket pair and went after the big stack again. He insta-called with his KQ and lost the race again and now I’m sitting pretty we move a little deeper into the tourney and we have Kat and I vs. some random player. This guy was passive and we took turns taking his blinds. Eventually he started to play back. This was the time I got TT and took him out for a heads up battle with Kat. She had a 2-1 chip lead and raises me on the first hand. I have AT and push expecting to fold. She calls with her Q9 and hits the winning pair on the river. It was fun and I was feeling good again.

During this time I was playing the PLO tourney. As I said before, I gave away a bunch of my chip on stupid plays. I made the decision to double back up or go home when I hit a set of kings to double up. I stayed tight from then on and doubled again through the same guy. A bit later I hit another big hand…and then another and I’m 4th with 34 players left. This is when card death hit but I had a big stack and made the money easy. When we got down to 14 players I was sitting in 10th but a double way from an easy final table. I took a big pot down with KK for a steal and then looked at aces the next hand. I raised it up and got pushed by another stack. We get it in and his KKQJ hits 2 pair and I’m done. I had a shot at a good finish and I probably over played my hand but those are the breaks.

How did I do in the FTOPS Razz

I could go into a long explanation of how it did but you can find it at BTN.

part 1
part 2
part 3
part 4

Thanks for the railing...I have a list of railbirds at BTN.

The next KORD will be on the 21st. We should also have radio coverage of the event as IT said he will do it.

A Little Something

I've been playing a lot of Razz lately so much of my writing has been over at Brickin The Nutz. I did have a solid weekend with some deep finishes in some other events but nothing of real earth shattering news.

My latest post on BTN is about playing in you comfort zone and getting use to higher levels. Because I'm really a new player to cash games, I can see and feel the effects of playing to high. Check it out if you have a chance.

The girls basketball team at my high school is really kicking ass. They are 28-2 right now and will be playing in the sectional championship on Thursday. I would make the drive to the game but the FTOPS Razz event will be in full swing so I guess I will have to wait until the super-sectional. Anyway, there are no seniors on the team and thus should have at least two chances of getting to the state finals. Go Royals.

Finally, I will be having the next KORD tourney on the 21st of February. I don't have the banner ready yet but it will be at 8:30 central time unless I screw it up again. Look for a little extra added to the prize pool.

Emergency and Tonight's KORD

I had a crazy day yesterday as I went through what should have been a typical day of work.

Everything started well but it came to a panic point when the Customer Service Manager came into a meeting I was in and said the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency had just shown up and there was no top management in the building. It seems that the General Manager was at a class and wouldn’t be back for about an hour and the President had just left for the hospital because he was having chest pains. The Accounting Manager had taken the president so we have to take care of this. I jumped up and met the guy in the front office and found out what he needed and proceeded on a plant tour. We also took care of finding the paper work he needed and sent him on his way.

I read an interesting post over at highonpoker that got me thinking a little bit about the skills involved in Razz. One of the comments that Jordan made was that Razz isn’t really a tournament game and that the variance involved makes it difficult to be profitable. He also talked about Razz cash games being where the money should be made because solid decision making will earn you a profit over time. And finally he said that the skills needed for Razz are not as deep as the skills needed for other forms of poker.

For the most part, I agree with what he says. I think Cash games can be exploited…especially at the lower levels and I do agree that some of the skills needed for Razz pale in comparison to other games. But I do think that you can earn a profit playing Razz tourneys. The key is, and I’ve written about it before is identifying the bad players and using there flaws to get you in position for success. Yes, when you get deep, everyone is at a critical point in the tourney and one mistake leaves you out of the money. And yes, you don’t have as much control over your destiny but it is about making the right decisions. I may write some more on this at Brickin The Nutz

Go read the post…I was well written and well thought out.

Tonight is the KORD. It is an event that I started a while ago and is really just an extension of my enjoyment of playing a donkey game like Razz. Check out the banner for details.

Also, Kat’s Donkament is tonight at 8 central. The password is donkarama.

Razz Skills and the KORD this Friday

After a long day of work I was ready to play the skills game last night. It was Razz which is one of my favorites to play but I had one problem...I wasn't going to be home at the start of the tourney. So, I signed up anyway knowing that I would arrive after the start of the tournament. Finally, around 40 minutes after the start I showed up with a playable hand ready to go. Who knows how many winning hands I gave up but I still had a nice stack and moved it up over starting stack in a short time.

I didn't do much for the rest of the hour but hit a big hand a bit later and moved into the top three spots. I had one hand in the second hour that was really the defining moment in my tournament. I'm posting it at Brickin The Nutz if you would like to see it. Anyway, I made it into the final 20 spots but couldn't catch the hands I needed to get me over the hump. It was good fun regardless of my finish.

Also, Friday night is the KORD. This months version is called SLB's Umbilical KORD named after last months winner. He put a bounty on his head for a buy-in if I remember right and there will be a random bounty placed on another player yet to be determined. The tourney takes place on Full Tilt on Friday the 18th at 9:00 central time with a buy-in of 7.70. It is a knockout tourney with $2 being the bounty on each player. The winner will also get a banner created in their honor placed on both Brickin The Nutz and here on this site so come one and all and enjoy the fun. The password is "pokere".

Have a great day.

The Next KORD and Other Stuff.

The Next KORD is coming up on the 18th so don't forget to come play.

Not much today other than I final tabled my favorite Razz tourney last night. Check out Brickin The Nutz to see what happened. I also have some informationn about starting a weekly Razz cash game. It is something I'm doing for my other blog but should be fun if you like Razz. We should have the other writers from Brickin playing so check it out.

I'll be trying to play Kat's Donkament tonight. I'm not sure if I'll be home in time but I'll Give it a shot.

Have a great weekend.

Brickin The Nutz

It is Friday and I am looking at a long drive home tonight. The weather man says 4-6 inches of snow so I think I'll get home 45 minutes later than normal. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Being Friday, I'll be playing tonight. I'm looking at Razz, PLO and maybe a random hold'em tourney for the night so look me up and we can chat.

I started a new blog called Brickin The Nutz. It will be dedicated to Razz for the most part and will also have a few guest bloggers throwing their Razz ideals out there for the world to see. Check it out if you have a chance.

That's it for today...have a great weekend.

X-Mas KORD Winner

Again, I fail to reclaim my title of KORD as SLB159 takes the title. He outlasted a field of 13 players to take down his first win in this event. He beat out Margari789 in a very good heads up duel that saw SLB give up the big chip lead only to see him fight back and win the event. Margari789 made it to heads up without, I believe, getting one knockout in the tourney. Bayne earned the last cash spot by playing his usual solid game. Bayne also one the $10 bounty for knocking out Surflexus.

I want to say thanks to everyone who came out and played. I think I will keep the format the same because I kind of like the whole knockout thing. We had a couple of unknown players, including Margari789, get into the mix tonight like smurfberry, alex j beeson and elgorde which were all nice additions to the field. And with the ATL connection hitting the tourney, Georgia was well represented.

As for me, I bubbled again. That is two in a row. Anyway, the results for the year based on top 10 finishes are below.

I don’t know what this means other that I’m really good at missing the prize. Congratulations to the money winners this year and we’ll see you next year at the monthly KORD.

We have a Winner and the X-Mas KORD

We have A winner. I watched the whole tourney with all three screens up(what a loser I am) and saw some good play, some bad play, some tiltish play and some suckouts. There were coolers and commenters. There were card racks and card deadness. Weak/tight play and agro pushers. In the end we saw one tight aggressive player vs. another tight aggressive player. Funny how good solid play comes to the top. Congrates to Jeci on winning the trip.

Reading through some of the predictions I saw that few people felt huntsvegas had much of a chance. I don't really know him but have blogged a little bit about him when he and surf went to Tunica and so I had a little interest just because of those circumstances. He led the way through much of this tourney and accumulated chips through out. He got crippled after a calling a push at one point and came back to take the lead. Well played and an unlucky cooler at the end.

Just a reminder that the X-Mas KORD is tonight at 8:30 central time. It is a knockout tourney and should be a lot of fun as Razz is such a skill game. Surf put a bounty on his own head and I will throw A little extra to the winner as well as posting a banner in the winners honor. The password is pokere and only cost $7.70($2 bounty on each player) on Full Tilt.

Have a great weekend.

Its Chistmas KORD

Wow...the end of the audit season. I really only have two out side audits a year but they come about a month apart. This last one was much easier because we on make one product that falls under the scope and it is made for one customer. Easy peasy.

I also want to remind everyone that the Christmas KORD will be on Friday night at 8:30 central time. The cost is $7 + .70 and there is a $2 bounty on each players' head. The password is pokere so jump on to Full Tilt Friday night and play. I forgot to do it money added so instead I will be sending the winner $10 just because I am nice. Also, there will be a $10 bounty on the head of Surflexus as he is the current KORD and he felt so good about being a donkey razz player that he placed it upon him self. So think about it...Win the tourney and you get a nice little payday plus you will knock out a few players at $2 a pop, you knock out surf and you get another $10. Just they way you want to start a weekend.

I played a little poker last night as I tried to push aside the remaining audit tilt I was feeling. I started with...fuck, I don't remember what I started with but I didn't cash. Anyway, I played the $3 turbo because of the skill it takes to play that and didn't cash and also played the $5 razz and missed the money by a spot or two. What a stupid friggin game. Anyway, I started the Dookie, limit hold'em...turbo. What the hell is turbo limit hold'em? I can see no redeeming value to the game. So with that said I cashed and ended the night up $5. I am so skilled.

One of the fun hands I was involved in was semi early in Razz. A little hand history but some explanation to go with it.

Seat 1: giantfishy (1,450)
Seat 2: YoungGuns73 (3,176)
Seat 4: pokerenthusiast (2,361)

One of the things I like to do is keep in control of the pot size. Most of the time I wont reraise unless I'm trying to isolate someone or someone calls with a high card up. In this case I had to opponents driving up the price. I have the nut draw possibility just like they do. This really isn't the time to be capping the bet because nobody has a made hand.

We all hit good cards here and my two opponents proceed to get as much money into the pot as they can. Without having a made hand this is questionable but the one player is now short on chips and has to call everything down. At this point I am going to chase to the river because of the amount of chips in the pot. This is the draw back to throwing all that money into the middle early as players get priced in to chase.

davedutch raises to 480
pokerenthusiast raises to 640

I have the nut and I have not had to force a bet yet. Check calling to this point looks to be me sitting on an 8 or a 7 when I have the nut. I bet out here because I know the shortie will reraise.

I don't like this card because it gives my hand more merit. They now know they are behind and check call my bet. I needed davedutch to catch the 6.

pokerenthusiast wins the side pot (470) with 5,4,3,2,A

pokerenthusiast wins the main pot (4,225)

davedutch called me down because of the large amount of chips in the pot. He knew he was beat and gave me 320 extra chips because he helped make the pot so big early. Control the size of the pot. He could have gotten away if he doesn't cap it.

Good luck to everyone playing to night for the TOC and the trip to Aussieland.

Surf...The New KORD and the Next LORD Event

As I said, Surf is the new KORD but I won't be naming the next one after him. Instead, I will be hosting The PE X-Mas KORD. It will take place on the 21st of December and will feature a $7 buy-in. Why the $7 buy-in you ask? I asked for this to be a bounty tournament and requested a $2 bounty on each player. I also requested 2000 starting chips just for a change of pace so I also moved up the starting time to 8:30 central time. With the money added overlay, I'm hoping to make this the best KORD tournament yet.

So mark it down on your calendar and join in on the fun.

A New Kord

We have a new KORD taking control of the Razz world and he is a the right guy for the position. Surflexus out lasted 12 other players to earn a title that he should probably hold. JudeSalem battled hard for a 2nd place finish with Huntsvegas taking the last money spot. I was the bubble breaker with some great skills getting me there when not once but twice having my opponent hit 3 pair to keep me alive late at the final table. The clincher in my bubble result was bricking in 2 straight hands when the bets were getting huge.

Thanks to everyone who came out and played.

Play the KORD Tonight and Other Stuff

Ok folks…It is Friday so come out and play the KORD tonight. It can be found in the private tournament section on Full Tilt and it kicks off at 9:15 central time. This version is called NightRanger’s Revenge as he won the last one of these a month ago. The password is pokere and the cost is a minuscule $5+.50. I have even thrown in a little extra because I can so I hope to see you there. As Last time I will put up a little banner to show the winner.

Wednesday night I was having connection problems and kept having lag issue while playing. So, yesterday morning I wake up and realize that the phone is out and I have no internet. I have Mrs. PE call Comcast figuring they will have every thing all better by the time I got home last night. Nothing was fixed so placed another call and they will now be coming some time between noon and 4:00. Nice time window. Anyway, everything seems to be working today so now I have to call them back and cancel so they don’t have to make an unnecessary trip.

Last night I had a ton of things to do. I went to parent/teacher conferences for two of the kids and then had to go to a meeting at church. Luckily we didn’t have a quorum so the meeting was done quickly. Anyway, when I got home I grabbed a bite to eat and opened my laptop to do some stuff. I knew we didn’t have internet but a funny thing happened. I checked the available networks and saw that one of my neighbors doesn’t have his network locked. Is it stealing if I jump onto his network if I want to go surf the net?

Finally, don’t forget to play the Kat’s Donkament at 8:00 central. It is a $1 rebuy that gets about 25 players and will have a prize pool into the $200 + range before it is over. Go to Full Tilt and play this tourney to get your fill of rebuy madness. The password is donkarama.
